Subject: Pathetic state of the Monument called Charminar.
I would like to bring to your attention the pathetic state in which
the monument called Charminar, that we proudly call as a symbol of
Hyderabad - if not Andhra Pradesh - is being maintained.
I visited the Charminar yesterday for the first time and i was very
excited to visit it. I was very excited because, i will be shortly
visiting a centuries old monument that has stood the test of time.
My first impression was that, the sourrounding areas were very shabby
will all kinds of garbage thrown around by our indiciplined citizens
and no one to clean it.
I entered the arena paying Rs. 5 ( which i much regretted after the
visit ) to find the garbage gala continued even inside. ( though not
as much as outside ). Ice cream cups, empty water sachets and other
stuff thrown - without any respect to the great monument.
I took the flight of curling steps up - only to find that walls filled
with names of the previous visitors. They have carved their names on
the walls. There is no space left on the wall. No exaggeration. All
the walls are filled with names. Pathetic!!
People have spit pan, gutka or whatever in all the nook and corner
they can find.
I had no sense of being in the middle of history. I came down
immediately and left charminar totally ashamed.
I suggest the following.
-- Please provide enough garbage disposal buckets/cans outside the
-- Please make sure people do NOT enter the arena with eatables.
-- Please make sure nobody enters the arena with gutka or any
chewables in their mouth.
-- Please make an honest effort to keep inside and outside the arena
as much clean as possible.
-- As people enter the charminar, please have somebody explain the
people, the greatness of the spot and the need to maintain it.
-- If possible, take an effort to rid the walls of the names and also
to clean the corners off the gutka/pan spits.
I would really appreciate it if you can take up some of the above efforts.
Please let me know how I can particiate in your cleaning efforts.
Thanks and Regards-
